## What we trade

Our range runs from crude oil to the refined products made from it: diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, fuel oil and marine gas oil. We also handle LNG and LPG.

Petroleum products are sold by specification. A buyer of diesel is buying a product that meets EN 590, and a buyer of jet fuel is buying one that meets the aviation standard named in the contract. The specification for each product is listed below.

## Products

### Diesel EN590 10ppm

Ultra-low-sulfur diesel to the European EN 590 standard, with a maximum of 10 ppm sulfur.

## The life of a trade

1. **Inquiry**: Product, quantity, specification, destination, timing
2. **Offer**: Price basis and delivery terms
3. **Contract**: Signed by buyer and seller
4. **Payment instrument**: Opened by the buyer's bank
5. **Inspection**: Quality and quantity at loading
6. **Loading**: Into vessel, pipeline or truck
7. **Delivery**: On the agreed delivery terms
8. **Settlement**: Documents presented, payment made

The order of steps can change with the delivery terms and payment method agreed in the contract.

## Delivery terms

Delivery terms decide where risk and cost pass from seller to buyer. They follow Incoterms such as FOB, CIF or DAP, as agreed in the contract.

The terms also settle who arranges the vessel or truck, who insures the cargo and where the product is inspected. We set these out in writing before a contract is signed.

## Gas products

LNG is natural gas cooled to about minus 162 degrees Celsius so that it can be shipped as a liquid. LPG, mainly propane and butane, is stored under pressure or refrigeration.

Both are traded on composition and on the delivery method, which is fixed by the terminals at each end of the voyage.

## Services around the trade

A trade also needs a counterparty, a payment structure, somewhere to hold the product and proof of its quality. We work on each: [brokerage](https://yorkwellpetroleum.com/brokerage-services/), [trade finance](https://yorkwellpetroleum.com/finance/), [storage and logistics](https://yorkwellpetroleum.com/storage-logistics/) and [quality assurance](https://yorkwellpetroleum.com/quality-assurance/).

The terms used in a trade, from FOB to laytime, are explained in our [glossary](https://yorkwellpetroleum.com/glossary/).

## Questions we are asked

### Are prices shown on the website?

No. Price depends on the market, the product, the volume and the delivery terms. We quote in writing for each inquiry.

### Is there a minimum quantity?

Quantities are agreed for each trade. Tell us the volume you need and the delivery window, and we will say what can be done.

### What do you need from a buyer to begin?

The company name and registration details, the product and specification, the quantity, the destination and the timing. Further documents are agreed as the trade moves forward.
